speaking up about mental health
The past 18 months have been incredibly hard for the whole World. With the Covid 19 virus taking over our lives and forcing us to stay locked in our homes, cut off from most of society we saw a massive surge in mental health issues. At Mobius, we take mental health very seriously and we believe we should set an example for other businesses to follow.
This all starts with the founder of the Company, our Managing Director, Lee Bignell. Lee has always believed in giving back to our communities which is why we choose a charity each year and pledge to raise valuable funding. Our charity of the year 2021 is ‘Empire Fighting Chance’ for which Mobius will aim to raise £10,000. Mental health is no exception to Lee and he also has his own section on men’s mental health in the Bounce Back book. Here’s a snippet:
“When I was first approached to talk about my ‘bounce back’ experience I’ve got to admit… I didn’t know where to start. Like many men the thought of talking about your feelings, especially when it comes to your struggles, is something we just don’t tend to do day-to-day. As a business owner, a family man and someone who’s always pushed myself (probably sometimes too hard) the thought of sharing the ups and downs of my career didn’t sit easy, but the more I thought about it the more I began to see it as a positive. If my experiences can help someone else through a rough patch, be it in business or in life, then it’s more than worth talking about. “
At Mobius, we carry out a mental health survey system which is sent to staff anonymously to help make our workplace a better, supportive place to work. It is also a regular theme in our staff newsletters to include a section on mental health as it holds great importance to us that our workforce is in a positive state of mind.
