the great outdoors - repurposing, adapting and revamping outdoor spaces
After months of uncertainty it was announced this week that some pubs and restaurants could be opening as early as the 22nd June, which means that time is of the essence for businesses in the hospitality industry to get ready for reopening with new social distancing rules.
According to the Financial Times, the Government is working on plans to allow pubs, bars and restaurants to reopen two weeks earlier than anticipated, with a big focus on how they can utilise outdoor space to allow social distancing without impacting capacity too much.
Currently, restaurants and venues wanting to place seating on public pavements outside of their venues need to apply for an outdoor seating license from their local authority, as well as paying a £500 fee. However, some reports have indicated that the Government is looking to fast track these applications and waiver the upfront cost, meaning even those without existing dedicated outdoor space can now make the most of this opportunity.
Here at Mobius we’ve got extensive experience in building cutting edge, creative spaces for our hospitality clients, both indoor and out. With a passion for innovative thinking, we can work with you to create an ideal solution to repurpose and reinvent your space.
Perfectly functional, come rain or shine!
As we all know too well, we can’t always bank on fair weather here in the UK - so regardless of whether you have existing outdoor space or not, making it weather-proof is essential. More permanent structures such as gazebos, huts and awnings are a quick and easy solution, allowing you to create covered space almost instantly. With some carefully placed heating solutions, these can also be accessible all year round. We can also offer creative semi-permanent solutions such as stretch tents, tipis and sails, which can be quickly erected and taken down as and when you need them, giving your customers a brand new experience and allowing you to maximise your capacity and your profits.
Make the most of what you’ve got
Many venues outside of city centres, especially pubs, often boast car parks and tarmaced areas which, with a little creativity, can provide perfect opportunities for additional seating spaces. Astroturfing, decking and some well considered landscaping can transform even the most previously unloved of spaces into a desirable drinking and dining spot, so think outside of the box and get creative!
We’ve been monitoring the trends and the Government updates around reopening for the hospitality industry closely, and working with our expert suppliers we’re ready to help you hit the ground running as soon as dates are confirmed.
