Electric cars are becoming more popular and look set to be the future for transport, especially given the Government’s plan to end sales on new petrol and diesel cars in the UK by 2030.
The Government recently announced that new homes, as well as those undergoing major renovation, will be required to install electric vehicle charge points from next year. England will lead the world to mandate such building regulations, kicking off a decade of installation of thousands of charge points throughout the UK, meaning installation of charge points will become more and more common.
So why should you be ahead of the curve and install EV charging stations at your work or home?
In 2019, the UK became the first country to pass a law requiring us to reach net zero emissions. Meaning, that we have to reduce our net emissions of greenhouse gases by 100% relative to 1990 levels.
This is great news for the environment but not an easy task. One of the biggest polluters of greenhouse gas emissions is the transport industry. In fact, the transport sector has only seen a 3% drop since 1990. So there is a long way to go!
One way we can help, besides walking, cycling or using public transport, is by switching to an electric car.. An electric car will have about half the impact on the climate over its lifetime compared to the average car.
Electric cars have come a long way over the years, and Bristol has done a marvellous job of being ahead of the curve. In the West of England alone there are over 150 public charging points, with 27,000 across the UK.
